One hot day in 2000 I was outside the juniors ring at Canfield. I saw across the tent, another girl a little younger than I with a Cardigan. A big one with a huge head named Opie. It was rare indeed to see another junior with a Cardigan. Especially at that time. Emily and I and our parents hit it off. The judging that weekend wasn’t very good. We had judges tell us absurd things like, why is your dog on the table this is a ramp breed, your supposed to hold your dogs tail out, and you talk to your dog too much it’s not that hard to get their ears up. Not to mention fighting to get looked at the end of the line with the other small dogs. From that point, we knew what we wanted to be. You know all those breeders with all the best dogs that just get it? We wanted to be them. We as a duo starting from a young age could make our marks on the cardi world. We strive to improve the breed and breed the best. So me and Emily merged last names Beashau and Banaszak to make Beaszak. A very small dog sanctuary with all the boys with Emily and all the girls here in Ohio. We don’t breed many litters and waited 8 years till we bred our first. We never stop learning. The best breeders are those who are not “kennel-blind.” We have had a lot of wise guidance from people who have been in the breed longer than us. We would like to thanks them all for that, everyone needs a mentor. No dog is perfect but we’d like to come close. |
